A Clutch Idea

We all love our massively oversized Chloe, Marc and YSL Carry-All’s but with summer warmth and chic light layering, why weigh down your ethereal vibe with the weight of your world literally on your shoulder? Go small, go clutch, this is the time of year to downsize to a simple statement bag.

There are some wonderful designer digs in the tiny purse world, but why not try out a vintage bad-boy from your local flee market… prices range from 5 buck-a-roonies to well lets just say cheap… and cheap is an awesome price to pay for having an original statement accessory.

I most recently went in search of clutches at the Fairfax Flee Market and was pleasantly surprised that pretty much every vendor offered a stellar selection of small bags… from boho chic to 80’s-Madonna-glam-lace to simple croc print leather…the styles were endless and damn cute.

So lighten up and grab yourself a cute clutch, because get real we all know that with sun-kissed cheeks and perfectly beached-up hair all we need is a dope shade of lip gloss and we’re ready to roll…

Summers Sounds Kick Off

OF MONTREAL
EMPIRE of the SUN

As the summer rolls in new upbeat music should be an awakening part of each day. Your tunes should accentuate your positive summer mood and invigorate you and your crew for some sun filled fun on the horizon. I will guide you through my own personal play lists to help you find your unique jams line up.

Of Montreal is a band from Athens Georgia with a bizarre and upbeat sound. They have a way of bringing you to your feet and leaving you with a feeling of joy and spontaneity. A couple of my favorite songs are “Id engager” and “Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games”. Both of these tracks portray their random style and prepare you for a fun night on the town. So bust out your mini skirts and mp3 players because this one will for sure hit the spot.

Another band that will never fail to put you in a good mood is Empire of the Sun. With their MGMT-like sound they incorporate synthesized beats and strange instruments into their music. Their music will always put a smile on your face and get you ready for any occasion. One of my favorite songs by them is “Walking On a Dream”; it is surely one to check out.

When in Doubt Follow the Moss

Finding your “go to” color pallets are essential but if you ever get stumped, as we all do, finding inspiration through pop icons or magazine clippings is a great way to figure out your personal fashion vibe.

There are and have been so many amazing fashion creatures out there. We can all take lessons from the Greats like Betty Paige, Bo Derek, Farrah Fawcett, Audrey Hepburn, Keith Richards, Steven Tyler, Kate Moss, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Bridget Bardot, Jane Fonda, Rachel Bilson… As we all know we have an amazing history of fashion icons at the tip of our fingers via the World Wide Web… so sign on and start searching to find looks that you love!!!!

Kate Moss is a personal favorite. She is truly my “when in doubt” fashion icon… If I’m having one of those days where I just cant get it together I think to myself “what would Kate do?”… Ms. Moss has an ability to pull off just about anything but translates key advice to the public through each outfit. Whether you are going for Rocker Chic or Hippie Couture Kate can show you how it is done… Just plug in her name to your search engine and have fun!!!! Above I have attached two examples of translating the “Moss Look”…

From TechniColor Dream’n to Everyday Livin

So the adventure continues on your exploration of confidence-boosting-mood-lifting-absolutely-fabulous-color-pallets to be incorporated into your everyday wardrobe…

It is incredibly fun to go through the process of translating the colors you are attracted to into the visual language of style….

Because color and images speak volumes alone, I will cut this short and simply show you examples of how to take beautiful imagery and inspiration and relay the same feeling with your fashion….

Tequila Sunrise: An Inspiration Translation

Taking the photographs I posted yesterday, I created a perfect summer look. The vibrant energy of the flower photographs and the NYC Diner lighting shot was the utmost essential to capture in the apparel translation...

Dreaming in TechniColor

We all gravitate to beautiful colors, tints, tones and shades. Color is so emotional… so personal. One could look at a pair of basic khakis and see only a Banana Republic sign flashing in their mind, whereas the person seated next to them gazes into a pair of khakis and sees the sand covered dunes of Cape Cod, smells of salt water and drift wood dance around their nose, memories of grandmothers lemonade rushes their mouth and a Dave Matthews Band tune incessantly drums through their body and the happy toe tapping begins…

Yes, all of this from a color. We all have sensory rushes that are triggered from the world around us. So “how” do you ask, “does this relate to living a stylish lifestyle”? Color, whatever one or million you may choose, adds emotion, essence and style to clothing, home décor, entertainment, etc. Basically we create the “flava” of our style with multitudes of pallets.

A great way to know which colors to surround yourself with is by choosing colors that bring on peaceful, energetic, powerful, nostalgic, dreamer or inspired emotions. Too often people fear color and tend towards a uniform of black and white… don’t get me wrong we all love a perfect black cocktail dress for drinks on the town or a fabulous white gauze tunic for a summer beach outing… BUT THERE IS A WORLD OF COLOR OUT THERE AND IT IS DAMN BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Start observing what you are drawn to and bring them into your life via clothing, bedding fabrics, candles, throw pillows, even notebooks or daily planners to brighten your work day.

Pick up a camera and start photographing colors that you are drawn to or even go through magazines and tear out what we in the fashion world call “swipe” or “tear sheets” that inspire you and represent the colors you seek to incorporate into your every day looks. It is quite interesting what patterns of tonal similarity you will find in your color research.

I take my digital camera with me everywhere! It is the best tool in the world to help gather inspiration, remember looks, etc. Above are some photographs that I have taken in the past couple of weeks that truly translate into my personal apparel and home décor style.
